Frustration with Tyson Fury has been growing by the day, with the boxing public having been left largely in the dark regarding what his next move will be.
Fury has been linked to a fight with just about everyone, from an undisputed bout with Oleksandr Usyk, a match up with cruiserweight world champion Jai Opetaia and even stars from the world of MMA such as Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou.
Talk of Ngannou and Jones have not went down particularly well with fans, given Fury’s last defence was a one sided beatdown of Derek Chisora in December. Following his promoter Frank Warren promising the next fight would be ‘game-changing’, the rumours about it being a crossover contest only intensified.
However, in a recent interview with SecondsOut, Warren confirmed ‘The Gypsy King’s next outing would be against a boxer.
“We’ve got to make fights that make sense, and something will announced soon. It’s going to be brilliant.
It will be a boxer.
It will be a game changer.”
Fans will hope an undisputed clash with Usyk is on the horizon for Fury, and Skill Challenge Promotions have made no secret of their intention to stage the historic four belt unification in Saudi Arabia, also announcing an official promotional deal with the Ukrainian earlier this month
.The fight appeared to have been agreed earlier this year, however talks between the two camps publicly collapsed, with most observers laying blame firmly at the door of Fury, although he himself believes Usyk was ‘scared.’
The plan is remarkably to stage the legacy defining undisputed fight on the same bill as a bout between Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder, in what would be an unparalleled night for the heavyweight division and the sport as a whole.
