Frank Warren has made his prediction ahead of the potential heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder on the back of the Brit’s one-punch knockout of Robert Helenius.
Joshua caught Helenius with a devastating right hand in the seventh round after a tentative start which even drew boos from sections of the crowd. It was a much needed stoppage for the 33-year-old and sets up the long-awaited matchup with Wilder.
On the weekend’s clash, Warren told Boxing Social that ‘AJ’s performance told us a nothing new about the former two-time world champion.
“He caught him with a big shot, but let’s get it right, he’s a guy who’s got a big punch and the other guy when he fights at that level he usually gets knocked out when he steps up.
You’ve not learnt anymore about AJ in that fight coming out of it than going into it.”
Talking about the probable Joshua-Wilder showdown, Warren is picking ‘The Bronze Bomber’ to get the victory, despite the punishment he received over a brutal trilogy with Tyson Fury.
“Tyson’s beaten Wilder three times, so if he beats Wilder, if he does, and I don’t think he will – so what!
Tyson’s beaten him three times and probably taken a lot of miles of of his clock in the fights that he had with Tyson. Tyson did a job on him, especially in that third fight, he had Tyson down as well, it was a tough fight. Wilder didn’t come out of that fight physically well I don’t think.
I don’t think he’ll beat Wilder by the way but that’s irrelevant – I don’t think he’ll beat Wilder.”
Eddie Hearn confirmed that representatives from Saudi Arabia were in London at the weekend and are hopeful of agreeing a deal for the blockbuster fight in the coming days.
