Frank Warren has responded to Oleksandr Usyk calling Tyson Fury a ‘borracho’ – Spanish for ‘drunk’ – when asking him for a fight.
The insult was an uncharacteristic call out from the Ukrainian Champion, with fans being much more used to Fury cracking the jokes
However, the ‘Drunk’ line, which was said jokingly, seems to have worked. Warren, Fury’s promoter and the man who can make the undisputed match-up between the two, responded in jest via SecondsOut.
“Tyson was off the booze and ready to go [in] December. We thought that was going to happen and then obviously Usyk came out and said that he wouldn’t be ready until next year.
So Tyson’s got to deal with Chisora, if he does that that fight’s [vs Usyk] not going to be hard to make. They both want it … I genuinely believe Tyson has got the beating of him, and if he does beat him, then I’ll go out and get drunk with him. I might take him [Usyk] with us as well.”
That’s a night out a lot of boxing fans would pay to see – but the fight has to be made first. As Warren points out, Fury faces Derek Chisora on December 3rd. Despite many fans writing it off as an easy victory, every boxing bout comes with its dangers.
However, if Fury backs up his heavy-favourite status and wins, rumour has it that the undisputed scrap with Usyk will be made in Spring of 2023 in, ironically given all the drunk talk, Saudi Arabia.
