There is just under a month to go until Frankie Gavin will challenge Bethuel Oshina for the IBO world welterweight title. That fight will take place at the Genting Arena in Birmingham on the 23rd of February 2018.
Gavin has endured somewhat of a topsy-turvy career since joining the professional rankings. He started his career in scintillating fashion by recording 19 straight victories. Before losing three times in a two-year timeframe seemingly stalled his career.
Those losses came at the hands of seasoned professionals such as Kell Brook and Leonard Bundu.
But he is a 2-time British Commonwealth champion who has experienced the highs of the sweet science. He has delivered standout performances such as earning a decision victory over the highly touted and then undefeated Bradley Skeete.
He will look to place his career finally in a better light with his performance on February 23rd.
“Funtime” will look to claim the world welterweight title at his second attempt, following suffering a knockout in the 6th of his 2015 clash with Kell Brook.
He caught up with our very own Glenn McCrory to discuss the importance of his upcoming clash and what it will mean in the grand scheme of things.
“I lost my twentieth fight with Leonard Bundu, I lost to Kell Brook who is up there with the best. Then I lost to Eggington, somebody I really shouldn’t have lost to.”

“I have a lot more talent than him and I think in training camp I took it too easy.”
“So this is my make or break now,” Gavin emphatically said.
The bill on February 23rd has been hyped as ‘Now or never’.
Frankie Gavin believes that is totally the case but he has set his sights on being top dog on the domestic scene at welterweight and once again lock horns with Bradley Skeete, moving forwards.
“I’m still number two in Britain, behind Bradley Skeete who you have already mentioned that I have beaten.”
“I know I’d beat him again, his style is made for mine.”

I’m not going to be one of those small guys chasing after him; I’m going to make him box and I know I am better technically than him.”
“Kell Brook has gone up a weight and Eggington is at 154. Its only me and Skeete now. There is no one else really in the division who can touch us,” Gavin concluded.
