It has been somewhat of a hot topic in the boxing world, as of late.
Will they or won’t Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach end their sixteen-year association with one another.
On Friday, the hall-of-fame trainer revealed that he had been upset by the manner in which he has been isolated from the Filipino’s camp. He revealed that he felt hurt and wished Manny well for both, the future of his ring career and senatorial responsibilities in his homeland.
Manny, however, made the move this weekend to dispell those rumours. The legendary 8-weight world champion claimed a final decision should be expected within the week.
Rumours have been rife that the reason for the existing animosity between the pair stems as a result of comments Roach made about the living boxing legend following surrendering his WBO welterweight title to Jeff Horn, in July 2017.
“I told him that the way his career is going, being a leader in his country and being a senator and dealing with all the responsibilities that come with that, he might have to give up boxing. Boxing is a very physical sport and a very rough sport and having two jobs like he has is so tough.” Roach said.
He’s just always going like crazy,” Roach said to Yahoo Sports.
“Being a prizefighter is difficult but being a world champion prizefighter is so incredibly difficult.
“It takes just about all of your time and focus and energy, and I just can’t imagine being able to do it and having another job.”
“That’s how hard it is. I didn’t know Manny was mad about that when I said it. I wish he had said something to me about it so we could have spoken.”
“My opinion hasn’t changed, but I wish we could have spoken to each other. But I have no complaints because my life is so much better in so many ways because of Manny Pacquiao.”
“If Manny would have called me and told me what he wanted to do, it would have been a perfect ending but I learned a long time ago life is not perfect,” Roach said.
“If there is anything I’m disappointed in about this, obviously, it’s that I had to read it in the newspaper and I didn’t hear it from Manny first.
“That stings a little, and it’s disappointing, but there are no hard feelings.”
