Scott Quigg will bid to become a 2-weight world champion, this weekend in California.
The man who hails from Bury will lock horns with his former sparring partner, the highly touted undefeated WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez.

In many quarters, Quigg is being viewed as somewhat of an overwhelming underdog. That doesn’t bother Quigg or his trainer Freddie Roach in the slightest.
“Valdez is a very tough guy,” said Roach.
“He comes to fight. Pretty good left hook, big overhand right, pretty methodical.”
Roach believes his man will be able to read his younger opponent’s attacks and utilise his superior speed to claim victory.
“We can read him and we can beat him with speed and so forth.”
“The thing is – a lot of people don’t understand the power he [Quigg] has,” Roach said.
“He has tremendous power also and I wouldn’t be surprised if he knocks this guy out.”
Quigg made the decision last year to relocate to Los Angeles to link up with Roach at the renowned ‘Wild Card’ gym just over a year ago, and the famous 57-year-old trainer branded the Bury fighter a ‘dream come true.’
Roach paid particular focus to how impressed he was by the fighter’s work ethic.
“He’s a great student,” said Roach.
“He comes to work, he makes my job easy. He’s always in shape,” Roach added.
“We don’t have to worry about that at all. He will never get tired in a fight, because he works so hard and is a very dedicated kid.”
“He’s a dream come true. He’s a great kid to have around.”
“There are some really good guys in that division,” he said.
“There are a lot of big names out there for us and any one of them, line them up;” Roach concluded.
