Legendary boxing trainer, Freddie Roach, has highlighted one current fighter whom he believes to be the ‘best out there’ in terms of the sports’ current crop of superstars.
Roach has, quite incredibly, trained over forty boxing world champions as well as eleven MMA champions, cementing his legacy as one the greatest coaches in the history of combat sport.
Tthe jewel in his crown is the success of boxing’s only ever eight-division conqueror, Manny Pacquiao, whom he coached for fifteen years and guided to unprecedented success in the ring.
In an interview with K.O. Artist Sports, Roach spoke ahead of Terence Crawford’s upcoming clash with rival, Errol Spence Jr, and pinpointed three-division title holder, Crawford, as one of the best fighters in the sport.
“I think that Crawford is the best fighter out there. He is a very good fighter, Spence is going to have a very tough night, but it’s not an easy night for either one of them. It’s two very high-quality fighters, I can’t wait to see it.”
“I love when they put the best two together, because that’s what we need and that’s boxing.”
After years of negotiations, Spence and Crawford will both put their undefeated records on the line as they battle for the undisputed welterweight crown in one of 2023’s most anticipated contests.
The vast majority of the boxing community have already made their picks, with some believing that a fifteen month spell of inactivity could prove costly for Spence, whose last fight was a victory over Yordenis Ugas in April 2022, whilst others remain confident that the unified champion will secure a fourth belt at the weight by defeating Crawford.
The American 147lbers will go toe-to-toe on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
