Carl Froch is not too impressed with the potential opponents Conor Benn is chasing and has named them ‘mismatches.’
Benn is coming off a straightforward if unimpressive win against Pete Dobson whom he fought for his Las Vegas debut on February 3.
It is only his second fight in almost two years as he continues to try to clear his name following a pair of adverse findings in drug tests conducted before his ill-fated grudge match with British rival Chris Eubank Jr back in October 2022.
Next up he has a hearing with the British Boxing Board of Control while he also tries to arrange his next fight. He named a five-man shortlist on X and found one willing dance partner in Gervonta Davis.
Eddie Hearn has confirmed an offer has been sent to the multi-weight world champion who is the naturally smaller man but vastly more experienced fighter.
Now speaking on talkSport Boxing, Froch has assessed the names Benn has been calling out while one former opponent has told him to stay away from Eubank Jr.
“He’s mentioned [Terence] Crawford, Devin Haney, they are mismatches. He should stay well away from them. Boxing’s about levels.”
He then turned his attention to Davis, who seems like a most likely opponent right now.
“To call out Davis, with his boxing ability and punching power, pound-for-pound, weight divisions aside, is also a mismatch.
“But it’s clever of Benn to mention it. He’s been up at 160, Davis is 135. It’s two weight divisions so it’s a smart move but it could still be disastrous for him.”
Whether or not Benn heeds Froch’s advice, time will tell.
