The ever-vocal Carl Froch has offered a new prediction for what might happen should British rivals Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury ever come together.
These two heavyweights have long been on a collision course to go up against one another although as of yet the fight has not happened.
Both men have big nights coming up – in March, Joshua takes on former Fury foe Ngannou, the MMA champion turned boxing novice who gave Fury real trouble and even knocked him down in his debut contest last October.
The former two-time champion is in a fine run having knocked out both Robert Helenius and Otto Wallin and won against Jermaine Franklin on points, all within the last 12 months.
Fury meanwhile takes on Oleksandr Usyk for all four major world titles on May 18, a delayed date owing to the cut sustained by Fury in sparring. Should both men come through victorious, then they may be lined up opposite one another at some point later in the year.
Speaking to talkSPORT boxing, Froch has now assessed where each man is at should that fight happen.
“I make Tyson Fury the favourite but not as huge a favourite as I did six months ago before [Fury] fought Ngannou.”
He then spoke about what might happen is Uysk won.
“If AJ fights Fury next, I think Fury wins. I think he turns up better prepared than when he fights Ngannou. And if AJ fights Usyk, then we know what happens. He can’t beat Usyk. He was close in the second fight but Usyk was able to step it up and take over. He always fights within himself.”
Whoever might win, these are the big fights the boxing world wants to see.
