The highly anticipated super-bantamweight unified clash between Stephen Fulton Jr and Brandon Figueroa has a date and a venue.
It had been thought September 11 would be pencilled in for the fight but instead proceedings will be put back one week. September 18 and the Park Theatre, MGM Grand in Las Vegas can now be marked down by fight fans on their calendars.
Fulton Jr, the WBO champion, rubber-stamped his world title credentials with a terrific performance in January to rip the belt away from Angelo Leo. Four months later in California Figueroa dealt with the threat of Luis Nery by stopping ‘Pantera’ in seven rounds to add the WBC title to his WBA Regular belt.
The styles of both men promise fireworks in the Premier Boxing Champions event which will be broadcast on Showtime in America. The IBF and WBA’s Super champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev will have one eye on affairs too. The impressive Uzbek southpaw, unbeaten in nine fights, could be next in line for the winner which would set up another opportunity for one of the sport’s divisions to crown an undisputed champion.
