Tyson Fury has taken a pop at fellow heavyweight Joe Joyce regarding his social media following – with Fury saying his wife Paris is more popular than ‘The Juggernaut.’
Fury was speaking to Behind The Gloves and made the comments when asked about a potential meeting between the two
.”Can he beat the Gypsy King? Probably not, but I’d like to see it one day.”
“I said to Joe, ‘You’ve got like 150,000 followers, you need to build your profile’. My wife has a million, so she’s more popular than the top ten heavyweights.”
Talk of a fight between Fury and Joyce emerged when the latter put in a career best performance against Joseph Parker a couple of weeks ago, stopping the brave New Zealander in the 11th round after a back and forth war in the Manchester Arena.
Fury, a teammate and friend of Parker, was sat ringside for the contest. With both fighters signed to Frank Warren’s Queensberry, speculation emerging regarding a fight between Fury and Joyce was inevitable.
In theory, a clash between the two behemoths would not be a difficult one to make and many observers believe Joyce is stylistically one of the toughest opponents in the division for Fury.
It would be a decent consolation after fans missed out on the all British showdown they were really hoping for – a fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua.
Talks between Fury and AJ’s camps collapsed yet again in recent weeks, prompting fans to question whether or not the defining heavyweight fight of this generation will ever get made.
