One man who knocked Tyson Fury down early on in his career has come out with a very precise prediction for what might happen when he fights Oleksandr Usyk.
The rescheduled and historic undisputed fight is set to take place on May 18, three months after the initial date due to the WBC champion getting cut badly in sparring late in the day.
It comes at a time when Usyk is in a great run of form, defeating Anthony Joshua in back to back world title fights then defending vs Daniel Dubois, while Fury has had questions asked of him after his bout with Francis Ngannou in October where he was knocked down.
He was also knocked down by cruiserweight Steve Cunningham back in 2013 when the pair fought, and now that man has been talking about his former rival and how he might fare in his next fight.
Speaking to IFL TV, Cunningham gave his unusual prediction for the upcoming heavyweight showdown.
“If I had to put my money on it I think Tyson Fury will get disqualified. That’s my prediction, he’s going to have to lean on Usyk. He will not be able to go skill for skill.”
He then credited his former opponent with improving over the years.
“After my fight, Fury upped his game. He is not the same who fought Steve Cunningham. He upgraded himself, definitely.
“Usyk is better than me, more accomplished, more comfortable, and he’s a southpaw so I think Fury is going to have to use those tactics to win and he’s going to have to get heavy and lean on him when Usyk starts dialling in that matrix and picking him apart so he’s going to have to slow him down somehow. I predict Usyk points or Fury disqualification.”
Fury himself won’t see it this way of course and has recently stated he is the ‘king of boxing.’
