Francis Warren has weighed in with a comparison of the commercial value of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, and believes there is a clear gap between the pair currently.
Joshua’s standing as a draw has been the topic of much discussion recently, mainly due to the relatively slow ticket sales for his comeback bout against Jermaine Franklin earlier this month.
And Warren, son of Queensberry boss Frank, told Boxing King Media that there is no doubt as to who the bigger star is at the present moment.
“It’s sport isn’t it, people go to what’s hot. You can be on top one minute, then down at the bottom.”
“Anthony Joshua is a draw, it is what it is. But Tyson Fury is one of the biggest sports stars on the planet, so I don’t think the two are comparable right now – honestly.”
It is unlikely many in the sport would disagree with Warren’s view, despite the fact the roles were very much reversed not so long ago.
Joshua drew a crowd of near 70,000 for his win over mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin in 2018, around the same ‘The Gypsy King’ fought on the undercard of Carl Frampton vs Luke Jackson in Northern Ireland.
Those days are a distant memory now, however, with Fury’s most recent outing against Dereck Chisora reportedly selling out the 60,000 capacity Tottenham Hotspurs’ Stadium, despite being held in the chilling British winter.
‘AJ’s backers would have hoped for a highlight reel knockout against Franklin at the 02 Arena to help build excitement around his career again, however, like his old foe Dillian Whyte five months prior, the former unified world champion, , was taken the distance by the American.
