Alen Babic has named the man he believes to be the best heavyweight on the planet – and it’s not Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk.
‘The Savage’ has gained many fans in the UK since his debut here in 2019. An all-action style and captivating stage persona make up for what many see to be a small frame for the heavyweight division. The 11-0 fighter, managed by Dillian Whyte, has been propping up main events ever since.
It’s not only the fans who have taken to Babic, it’s the domestic fighters, too. He’s been in camp with Tyson Fury helping the WBC champion prepare for Derek Chisora.
Despite being hugely impressed with Fury’s skills in sparring, Babic told Boxing Betting who he believes the be the best in the division.
“There’s no stopping Tyson Fury. Fury is calling out Joe Joyce – how crazy is that? In my humble opinion Joe Joyce is the dark horse in the heavyweight division and the best heavyweight on the planet right now. I’ve sparred with Joyce and rate him very highly.
And this Gypsy King is calling Joe Joyce out – he’s the only one. Nobody calls out Joe Joyce. That mentality of Fury is unbeatable.”
Joe Joyce is riding high off a career-best victory over Joseph Parker – another campmate of Fury’s. The heavy-hitter from London has systematically broken down 15 opponents to make up an undefeated record, stopping all but one inside the distance.
Now the WBO Interim Champion, and thus knocking on the door of a title shot. The belt he’s in line for is Usyk’s, however, as Babic says, Fury has mentioned his name recently. With the pair both in Frank Warren’s promotional stable, it should be a bout easy enough to make.
