TalkSPORT journalist, Gareth A Davies, has given further detail on his recent altercation with Conor Benn.
Controversy and newspaper headlines have been unavoidable for Benn since the cancellation of his fight with Chris Eubank Jr, but he gave himself no chance of keeping a low-profile when he slapped Davies’ microphone in anger at the recent Anthony Joshua fight.

Speaking to Boxing Social, Davies explained that he thought the dig was aimed at talkSPORT rather than at him personally – but an off-camera conversation with Benn proved otherwise.
“I thought it was aimed at the talkSPORT microphone when I first went over to him.
We had a few words afterwards off-camera, he spoke to me mainly, and said that he was very disappointed, he thought that we were friends. All I have done, the whole way along, is my job.
That is all I’ve been doing. I have stated every time that he is proclaiming his innocence, that he is not a drugs cheat, I don’t believe that he is a drugs cheat. He has just had clomiphene in his body twice and he has to explain that and that is the way it is.”
Despite not having a British boxing licence, ‘The Destroyer’ looks set to return to the ring soon, however it will not be against the opponent he was hoping for.
The 26-year-old seemed poised to finally face Eubank in June to complete a historic cross-generational trilogy, but his rival has reportedly opted to rematch Liam Smith, who became the first man to knock him out when they fought in January.
Benn’s comeback fight is yet to be announced, but there are whispers that it will now be the legendary Manny Pacquiao in the opposing corner on June 3rd in Dubai.
