Gareth A Davies has weighed in on Eddie Hearn’s silence on Conor Benn’s decision to not renew his boxing license to the British Boxing Board of Control, saying he was “staggered” that Hearn didn’t let the media know.
Speaking to IFL TV, Davies went on to say the saga resulting from Benn’s failed drug test ahead of his fight with Chris Eubank Jr was still very much in the balance.
“I’m just staggered that he didn’t tell us today during the lunch or during the sit down. I was very surprised when that statement came out, but there it is.”
“Everything’s in limbo.”
News broke yesterday of Benn’s decision to not renew his license, with the BBoC releasing a statement to clarify the 25-year-old made the decision ahead of a hearing scheduled in front of the board last week.
The statement read as follows:
“By a notice date 17th October 2022, Mr Conor Benn was called by the Board of the BBBofC to attend a hearing to deal with allegations of misconduct pursuant to Rule 25.1.1.”
“The hearting took place on 21st October 2022. On the morning of the hearing, Mr Benn voluntarily relinquished his licence with the BBBofC.”
Benn tested positive for the banned substance Clomid on a VADA test back in August, however this only came to public light on the Wednesday before his scheduled fight with Eubank Jr in October.
