George Kambosos says he can put himself in the Hall of Fame should he beat the legendary Vasyl Lomachenko when they come to blows down in Australia.
These two title hopefuls will come to blows and contest the vacant IBF lightweight strap on May 12th in Perth, Australia. It comes after both men have previously held titles in the divisions but both have been dethroned by the same man – Devin Haney.
Haney has since moved up to the 140lb division having previously twice beaten Kambosos to take the titles the Australian won off Teofimo Lopez in sensational fashion.
He also fought former three-division champion ‘Loma’ in May last year in a four-belt undisputed contest and edged a close points decision.
There has been plenty of needle in the build-up with each man comparing themselves against the performances of the other versus Haney and now Kambosos has stated the importance of the fight in a new promotional video shared by Top Rank on X.
“This victory cements my legacy, this puts me into the Hall of Fame. Kambosos versus Lomachenko. This is about legacy, this is about two warriors trying to prove something to each other and to the boxing world, right here in Australia. Two legends, It doesn’t get any bigger. “
Kambosos’s win over Lopez already makes him one of the most successful fighters in Australian history, while Lomachenko was the fastest man in history to become a three-division world champion.
He will now be hoping he can become a two-time champion to add to his own legacy which means there is a lot on the line come May and Jorge Linares has already made his prediction.
