Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia are two of the most recognisable names in the sport of boxing. The pair met in 2023 and today both have welcomed a rematch.
Last April, both fighters put their own respective undefeated records on the line for the chance to elevate their already huge profiles.
The fight was one of the fights of the year and it captured the imagination of the public, shown by the huge 1.2 million pay-per-view buys.
Since then, Davis knocked out Frank Martin in June this year and is set to fight Lamont Roach early next year.
Garcia has knocked out Oscar Duarte Jurado and then did win a majority decision against Devin Haney, however, this fight was ruled a no-contest after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drug ostarline.
He has been suspended for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission, which is set to end in April 2025.
Therefore, a rematch between the pair could take place next summer.
Today on Twitter/ X they both have added fuel to talks of this happening.
In response to a fan claiming the rematch will not take place, Davis said “Yes it will.”
Garcia responded to this by saying, “Time to settle this the right way!!!”
Despite being totally battered in the first fight, and failing a drugs test, as a result of Garcia’s showmanship and his performance verus Haney, it seems as if this fight may actually take place.
Davis’ fight against Roach was set to take place on Decemeber 14th, but after venue problems this has been postponed.
There is potential that this fight may no even take place and he may fight Garcia next.
After what was such a convincing result in the first fight, it will be difficult for Garcia to turn things around.
The build-up should be exciting and if it is anything like the first fight it should be another fight of the year contender.
