Gervonta Davis sees absolutely no threat in Campbell Hatton, claiming that after a fight with him the young Mancunian would have to eat through a straw.
This weekend’s fight card in Abu Dhabi saw the younger Hatton move to 9-0 as a professional, as he stopped Denis Bartos with a crisp left shot to the body. As fans discussed the performance online, one Twitter account including ‘Tank’ Davis in the conversation.
Davis responded to the funny tweet pitting Ricky Hatton’s (actual) son, against him – referred to as Floyd Mayweather’s son. He referenced Campbell’s legendary father in his response.
“He’ll be at dinner [with] his pops the next night eating his food through a straw.”
Is it really a Gervonta Davis tweet if it’s not deleted swiftly after? It was up long enough for many to see though, leaving no doubt that ‘Tank’ would go into that fight absolutely confident of the outcome. Given the differing levels of experience and competition, fans and bookies would feel the same.
Hatton capped off a four-fight year with that win and will be eager to step up in competition when he returns in 2023. Whilst the finish was impressive, some feel Bartos represented a stagnation rather than progress. Having said that, it’s early days and, with big shoes to fill, Hatton’s team will be content with taking their time.
Meanwhile, Davis still pursues a fight with Ryan Garcia – one of the many potential bouts in the sport that both boxers seem to want, but that can’t be made due to external factors like promotional companies and broadcasters.
