Boxing fans are just days away from the biggest fight of the year as Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis clashes with fellow American superstar, Ryan Garcia, in a catchweight fight.
Boxing Social has previewed the full undercard for you.
David Morrell Jr vs Yamaguchi Falcao
Cuba’s David Morrell (8-0) boasts an outstanding amateur record, with one-hundred-and-thirty wins and just two losses.
After just eight fights, he has propelled himself to the peak of the super-middleweight scene and makes a fifth defence of his WBA Regular title against Yamaguchi Falcao (24-1-1) in the co-main event of the card.
Morrell won the Interim title in just his third professional bout but is yet to get the chance to fight for the full world title and will be hoping that a win over his Brazilian counterpart will earn him the chance to fight the likes of Canelo Alvarez or David Benavidez.
Bektemir Melikuziev vs Gabriel Rosado
The standout clash of the undercard is the rematch between Bektemir Melikuziev (11-1) and former world title challenger, Gabriel Rosado (26-16-1).
Rosado pulled off a shock third-round victory over the Uzbek in 2021 with one of the knockouts of the year, but has lost his three fights since. Melikuziev will be aiming to avenge his lone defeat in style and prove that he can carry over the success of his amateur career into the professional game, after winning a silver medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Elijah Garcia vs Kevin Salgado Zambrano
Despite an array of middleweight talent on display, 19-year-old Elijah Garcia (14-0) will undoubtedly be the most high-profile.
Also a southpaw, Garcia has managed twelve knockouts in his short career and won the WBC Latino title last month against Amilcar Vidal Jr via fourth-round stoppage. Aside from WBA Regular champion, Erislandy Lara, Garcia and ‘Ammo’ Williams are considered as the United States’ biggest threats for the middleweight world title, and ranked as the #7 contender with the WBA, we could see Garcia challenging for world honours in the not-so-distant future.
Garcia will look to capture some eyes on the biggest stage against Kevin Zambrano (15-1-1), whose maiden defeat came to Joey Spencer in the super-welterweight division, back in September.
Fiodor Czerkaszyn vs Elias Espadas
Fellow undefeated middleweight, Fiodor Czerkaszyn (21-0) has manoeuvred his way to tenth in the WBC rankings and is seeking to break into the American market, with a third fight away from his native Poland.
Czerkaszyn fights Elias Espadas (22-5), who was knocked out for the first time in his career in a defeat to Xander Zayas last August.
Floyd Schofield vs Jesus Valentin Leon
Another middleweight prospect to keep an eye out for is Floyd Schofield (13-0), who scored a highlight reel KO in October, where he brutally finished Daniel Rosas in the first round after dealing the Mexican a picture-perfect left-hook.
‘Kid Austin’ is tasked with another Mexican in the opposing corner this weekend, as he faces Jesus Valentin Leon (23-1-2), who comfortably has the best record of any of Schofield’s opponents to date.
Meanwhile, Vito Mielnicki Jr (14-1) has overcome an early stumble to string together six victories at super-welterweight, he is matched up against Jose Sanchez Charles (20-3-1), who went the distance with former WBA champion, Austin Trout, in his last contest.
Lorenzo Simpson vs Pachino Hill
After a stellar amateur career, Lorenzo ‘Truck’ Simpson (12-0) has been in fine form as a professional and takes on Pachino Hill (8-1-1) in the middleweight division.
As a thirteen-time national champion with a record of 214-4 as an amateur, much is expected from Simpson and don’t be surprised if he steals the show in terms of undercard fights.
Tristan Kalkreuth vs Jaime Solorio
Six-foot-four Tristan Kalkreuth (9-1) bounced back from a first career defeat with a second-round knockout in his most recent outing, which was at heavyweight. He steps back down to the light-heavyweight division, after six fights away from the weight, to meet Jaime Solorio (12-5-2), who’s last two fights were at heavyweight, in an intriguing contest.
The Mexican once went the distance with D’Mitrius Ballard and lasted eight rounds with Richard Revera, in a fight that was later ruled a no-contest, so a stoppage for Kalkreuth would a real indication of the power that he carries at 185lbs.
Jalil Major Hackett vs Jason Phillips
Also on the card is the second of nine undefeated fighters on the card, as Jalil Major Hackett (5-0) seeks to continue an impressive start to his career, which has seen him claim four knockouts in his five fights, all of which were inside two rounds. The super-welterweight will take on 22-year-old southpaw, Jason Phillips (3-3-2), who is yet to stop an opponent.
Cuttino Oliver vs Roberto Cantu Pena
Bantamweight prospect, Cuttino Oliver (2-0) fought on a Davis undercard in his last fight, where ‘Tank’ claimed a sixth-round stoppage victory over Rolando Romero.
Oliver returns for his third professional bout, taking on Roberto Cantu Pena (3-2), who has knocked out his opponent in each of his three victories to date.
Maint event: Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia
In the main event Gervonta Davis (28-0) is pitted up against Ryan Garcia (23-0) in what looks like it could be the fight of the year.
With twenty-six knockouts to his name, the power of ‘Tank’ is undeniable, but it is the speed of Garcia that has drawn debate over who could claim the victory.
One factor that Davis does have on his side is the weight, with a catchweight of 136lbs set, a weight that the former super-featherweight champion should be more than comfortable at. Meanwhile, Garcia moved up the super-lightweight division (140lbs) after troubles making the lightweight (135lbs) limit, claiming that he would never fight at lightweight again.
At a weight just one pound higher than Garcia refuses to fight at, and a rehydration clause of ten pounds, Garcia may struggle to give the best representation of himself if he feels restricted by a brutal weight cut.
