Gervonta Davis has put an end to speculation regarding his promotional situation, confirming he is no longer under contract with Mayweather Promotions.
Speaking on a Twitter space, Davis – despite reiterating there was no ill feeling towards either Floyd Mayweather or CEO Leonard Ellerbe – stated he would no longer be working with the pair going forward.
“First and foremost, love to Mayweather Promotions and all that they have done for me, but I am definitely out of my contract, for sure.”
‘Tank’ provided a further update at a recent press conference for his upcoming fight against Hector Luis Garcia, as captured by FightHype.
“It’s just a test run right now with this, you know what I mean. I’m on my own. But much love to Mayweather Promotions, Leonard, Floyd, all them guys. I definitely appreciate them. I’m just doing my own thing now. That said in the future, we can’t work together or anything like that. I’m just trying to put my own pants on.”
“Floyd is out doing him. He’s always been like that. You know what I mean? I have to focus on what I can focus on. He already did what he had to do. I ain’t going to lie. If I did what he did in the sport, I’d be the same way. I don’t fault him for staying to himself. But it’s also a type of thing like, come back and help too.
The Baltimore fighter also offered an insight into his mindset when on social media. He’s famous for tweeting call outs, insults, and reactions to goings on in the sport before swiftly deleting them.
But much love to Mayweather Promotions. It’s no bad blood type s**t. A lot of people think when I’m tweeting I’m mad. But I’m just talking – talking s**t. I’m tweeting because I’m in camp. I’m angry. If I wasn’t in camp, I wouldn’t be tweeting.”
Davis’ relationship with Mayweather Promotions has been a tumultuous one over the years, and was plunged into serious doubt recently after a series of disgruntled tweets from the 28 year old, as well as an anonymous text circulating around the spot that he would no longer be working with the company.
The American’s attention will turn towards January 7th, when he will face Hector Luis Garcia before going into a mega fight with Ryan Garcia in the spring.
