On September 16th 2017, the most hotly anticipated matchup in boxing came to fruition. Gennady Golovkin locked horns with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in Las Vegas, but the action, of what was a very good fight left a bad taste in the mouth of many.
Many felt a sense of injustice. After Golovkin had seemingly done more than enough to earn the verdict by throwing more punches, landing more punches and controlling the ring space with his presence.

Abel Sanchez had made several verbal barbs at Canelo following the fight and he has continued that trend again.
“Canelo surprised the fight fans after talking all that smack, he was a runner. Canelo turned into Floyd;” Sanchez stated.
“McGregor turned Floyd into a Mexican and Golovkin turned Canelo into Floyd,” Sanchez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
“It behoves Canelo — with as much talking as he’s doing this far away from the fight about his legacy and how he’s going to be remembered — to at least make it a fight. If he makes it a fight, who knows what can happen.

“When Canelo sat down, he was effective in the first fight, he just didn’t do it because he knew he’d get knocked out.”
Sanchez shared that he hopes that Canelo chooses to stand and trade and make a war with Golovkin.
“If he does it more, maybe we get the kind of fight that we were expecting.”
Canelo has said the judges will not be needed ahead of the rematch. But Sanchez shared that he will never achieve that goal by backpedalling and not standing his ground to sit down on his punches.
You’re right. This time we won’t need the judges. #CaneloGGG2pic.twitter.com/h5Hcsh2Evo

“Maybe Canelo hits hard enough to hurt Golovkin, but you’re never going to find out by backpedalling and running.”
“Canelo needs to do what he’s saying and then anything can happen. They are both big punchers and one shot can turn a fight around.”
