Abel Sanchez, the head trainer for Gennady Golovkin is in confident spirits following the announcement of the hotly anticipated rematch of the year.
Gennady Golovkin will once again put his unified IBO, IBF, WBA and WBC world middleweight titles on the line against the Lineal RING Magazine champion, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
The clash will take place on ‘Cinco De Mayo’ weekend on May 5th. The venue for the fight is still to be decided.
The first match-up between the pair ended quite controversially to say the least. Golovkin, the champion threw more punches, landed more punches and most notably dictated the pace of the fight and dominated the ring with his presence.

Somehow, perhaps undeservedly ‘Canelo’ earned a draw decision verdict following a bizarre scorecard from Adelaide Byrd.
This time around, both fighters have gone for the mantra that the judges scorecards will not be needed in the rematch.
Both Canelo and Golovkin will be seeking knockouts in the rematch.
Golovkin’s trainer reitirated his opinion that the first fight was not close and Canelo only won four rounds. Furthermore, Sanchez is predicting more of the same for the Mexican slickster.
“First of all I don’t think it was that close. I think a lot of people had it 8-4, but he still lost.”
“Golovkin can do the same thing he did before and Canelo can do the same thing, and the fight will be the same as the first one.”
“I think it’s on Canelo because of all the smack he’s talking,” Sanchez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Sanchez scoffed at the recent suggestions from the Canelo camp too. Alvarez has been very vocal about looking to knockout the durable Golovkin in this rematch.
Sanchez scoffed at such suggestions and dismissed it as purely ‘talk’.
“Canelo did the same thing the first time, he said he was going to go out and knock Golovkin out in the tenth round.”
“So did Hopkins and De La Hoya, it didn’t happen and all they did was talk.”
“They are doing the same thing again, so Canelo is putting the pressure on himself.”
“All Golovkin has to do is what he did before and he wins the fight again.
If Canelo stands in front of him, we’re going to see a different fight, we’re going to see a fight that the public is expecting, a classic fight.”
