The undefeated world middleweight kingpin, Gennady Golovkin is on the lookout for an opponent for his upcoming May 5th date in Las Vegas.
This situation came as a result of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez withdrawing from their planned bout as a consequence of being temporarily suspended by The Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Many names have been mooted recently as potential opponents. The list includes names such as Demetrius Andrade, Spike O’Sullivan, Billy Joe Saunders as well as a few others.

Golovkin says whoever is presented to him of the middleweight contenders, he could not care less. ‘GGG’ stated a readiness to take on anybody in his domain.
“Now is my time. I’m ready to fight with anyone, we’ll see. I will be ready to fight on May 5 in Las Vegas,” said Golovkin, according to ESPN Deportes.
Additionally, the problems the Mexican Alvarez is now experiencing is ‘not my problem.’
“Canelo withdrawal is not my problem, I’m ready to fight. I am a professional and I know how I should do things.”
Golovkin says he does not envisage any problems finding an opponent for the May 5th date, despite the date being less than a month away at this stage.

“It should not be a problem for me [to fight on May 5].”
Golovkin also reiterated that he feels the Canelo – Golovkin II date being cancelled is “terrible for the sport.”
The Kazakh’s promoter, Tom Loeffler believes Canelo and Golden Boy had no other option following the failed tests on February 17 and February 20.
“After the commission announced the suspension, I don’t think they had another option.”
“Canelo did the right thing to step aside with a (press) conference as they did.”
“The focus was the tiebreaker, Golovkin wants to fight on May 5 because he wants to be active and then we will see the rematch with Canelo,” said Loeffler.

On the topic of potential opponents for his charge on May 5th, Loeffler commented”There have been many opponents under consideration, Jaime Munguía is one of them.
“There is a list of five different types and we are just trying to close everything, also with the venue, with HBO, with Tecate, international television,” explained Loeffler.
“There are many factors, different aspects, sanctioning bodies, we are still looking for the indicated type.”
“Obviously, there is little time and we must work fast. In a couple of days we will have it.”
