For the large majority of his career, the unified WBA, IBF, IBO, WBC world middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin has always stood by the mantra the goal for his career would be ‘All the belts’.
Golovkin’s attempts at becoming the first undisputed middleweight champion since Bernard Hopkins were stopped in their tracks when he was somewhat when he faced off with the Lineal RING magazine world champion, Saul Canelo Alvarez.

He was somewhat dubiously denied victory following a controversial draw verdict. He will face off once again with Mexican in a highly anticipated May 5th Cinco De Mayo rematch.
However, Canelo has since tested positive for elevated levels of clenbuterol.
That reveal has raised lingering doubts if the bout will actually come to fruition or the deal will suffer a hiccup as a result of the positive test.
“If the fight can’t happen, the next step for me is Saunders,” Golovkin was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
Golovkin once again reiterated his motto from his earlier days in his career by saying “It is my dream to get all the world championship belts.”

Golovkin was quick to add also, that he still hopes on his part the fight with Canelo comes through because it is the ‘biggest fight in boxing’.
He added: “I still hope the fight [with Canelo] happens.”
“It is the biggest fight in boxing right now and I would like to be on that level once again.”
On the topic of the failed drug test, Golovkin was abrupt and to the point and reaffirmed to the fans that he is an athlete that respects the sport.
“But it is for the [NASC] to decide if he was positive or negative.”
“I am an athlete who respects the sport and this surprises me and bothers me because it had never happened to me.”
“I will submit to all the tests that require me to clarify this embarrassing situation and I trust that at the end the truth will prevail.”
