As traction around a potential super fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford grows, Oscar De La Hoya has weighed in with his prediction.
De La Hoya actually promoted Alvarez for a large chunk of his earlier career, though the pair did not exactly part ways on the best of terms and there is still believed to be some bad blood there.
It should perhaps come as no surprise that the Golden Boy boss backed Crawford when asked about the clash in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV.
“Terence Crawford will beat ‘Canelo’ anytime. I’ve said before the big, talented man will always beat the small talented fighter – but Terence Crawford is not small.
Terence Crawford is a big guy, he can walk about at 168 if he wants to. If this fight is made at 164, Terence Crawford all day.
Based on skill set alone, Terence Crawford is a master and he will make Canelo look like a child. That’s just my boxing experience.
Do I want Canelo to win? Yes! But from an expert fighter’s view, Crawford will beat him in a masterclass any day.”
‘Bud’ has now stated in multiple interviews that he would be all too happy to make the jump up to 168lbs to take on Alvarez, even though that weight class would heavily favour the Guadalajara star.
Alvarez does not seem as keen, however, stating that he has nothing to gain from taking on the newly crowned undisputed welterweight world champion.
