Hasim Rahman Jr, son of the former heavyweight champion with the same name, has revealed that he was told he might not get paid if he hurt Jake Paul in a sparring session.
Rahman was scheduled to face Youtuber-turned-boxer Paul back in August, however the bout was cancelled after Rahman, who had infamous sparring sessions with Paul, declared himself unable to make the specified weight.
Now, in an interview with ESNEWS, Rahman has disclosed that Paul’s team told him to go easy on Paul in their sparring sessions, and was even told he ran the risk of not getting paid if he was to hurt ‘The Problem Child’.
“I sparred him and they [Paul’s team] asked me to take it easy on this guy [Paul].
They told me that if I hurt him, then they didn’t know if they could get me paid.”
Rahman went on to encourage Paul to fight established boxers, rather than MMA fighters, after recent rumours of a fight with former kickboxing champion Andrew Tate have surfaced.
“I don’t even know Andrew Tate.
Fight somebody that boxes, fight a cruiserweight, fight a light-heavyweight, it doesn’t even have to be me.”
However, 12-1 Rahman did admit that he respects Jake Paul for stepping in the ring, even though Paul doesn’t look like giving him another chance to fight in an official fight.
Rahman is attempting to keep his name in the mix for the rising influencer-boxing events, and fights former UFC star Vitor Belfort on DAZN on November 19th.
