Former world middleweight champion, Daniel Jacobs is ready and willing to step in and agree to a rematch with Gennady Golovkin, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.
Daniel Jacobs arguably gave Golovkin the toughest fight of his entire title reign, when they faced off in March. Jacobs was narrowly edged out on the scorecards when they faced off at Madison Square Garden.

Since then, Jacobs has overhauled his brand by leaving Al Haymon’s ‘Premier Boxing Champions’ banner. Jacobs then signed a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing and a television contract with HBO in the USA.
Jacobs began the new chapter of his career by returning to winning ways last weekend when he claimed a unanimous decision victory, against the previously undefeated Luis Arias.
On the other hand, K2 promotions and Golden Boy Promotions are currently at loggerheads over finding an agreement for a potential ‘GGG’ – ‘Canelo’ May rematch. Both camps have as of yet, been unable to come to an agreement after extensive negotiations.
Hearn said in an exclusive with the Inside Boxing Live podcast. “I said to Tom Loeffler the other day, ‘Listen, if Canelo-Golovkin doesn’t happen, we’re ready to go with Jacobs-GGG II.’
Touching on where Jacobs goes next, Hearn outlined their plans to have him back in training camp in the early stages of 2018.
“We want to get our date, so that Danny Jacobs can have four, five weeks off with his family, enjoy his Christmas and get straight back into camp,” Hearn added.
Hearn also shared he intends on keeping Jacobs as busy as possible and furthermore stressed the importance of a fighter having a plan moving forwards.
“I think that’s important for any fighter, to have a strategy and a plan and a schedule, rather than just waiting for a call that might take three or four months to come.
“That’s very disheartening to be so inactive, and the plan with Danny Jacobs is to be as busy as possible.”
If it is not possible to deliver Jacobs a fight against Golovkin, Hearn has suggested the winner of next month’s WBO world middleweight title fight could be a viable alternative.”I think the winner of [Saunders-Lemieux] fight against Danny Jacobs is a natural fight as well,” said Hearn.
“Our concern is if Lemieux wins, they’ll try and hold him up for the winner of Canelo and Golovkin. We want to be in control of our own destiny,” Hearn concluded.
