Eddie Hearn is confident on the outcome of Jarrell Miller versus Daniel Dubois, even despite his pick being against the odds.
The heavyweight pair are set to meet on a huge card in Saudi Arabia on December 23 which also features the likes of Anthony Joshua versus Otto Wallin, Deontay Wilder versus Joseph Parker and several other big fights.
Dubois is coming off a loss to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk back in August. Though he managed to knock Usyk down in the fifth round, the shot was ruled a low blow and, failing to capitalise, was stopped himself in the ninth.
Miller meanwhile remains a divisive figure having failed several drug tests in the lead-up to his proposed fight with Joshua at Madison Square Garden in June 2019.
Following a two-year ban, he has been building his way back into the spot with wins over the likes of Bogdan Dinu and Lucas Browne, but Dubois is his biggest test yet.
Speaking to Boxing Social, however, Hearn reckoned it was a terrible matchup for Dubois.
“If [Miller] beats Daniel Dubois which I truly believe he will – I think it’s a terrible fight for him at this stage of his career – and AJ turns round and says he wants to fight Miller, I’m not going to say ‘oh I don’t like this.” AJ is the boss.”
Hearn then said it would be down to Joshua whether the pair were to fight in the future.
“Miller talks a great game. Our focus is Deontay Wilder but sometime down the future I can’t rule out AJ versus Miller. But that’s an AJ decision, not mine.”
Should Dubois lose, where he goes next on the heavyweight scene is anybody’s guess, but with a loss to Joe Joyce the first time he stepped up a level back in 2020 paired with the Usyk defeat, it would not bode well for the future.
