Wayne Rooney’s potential move into boxing has been a hot topic all week, and Eddie Hearn has now weighed in on the talk, stating that the football legend would beat Jake Paul if they were to meet in the ring.
It was revealed this week that Rooney had held talks with Misfits Boxing about fighting on one of their events, although the Manchester United and England legend has already stated that it isn’t his current main focus.
Despite his comments, fans have been debating just who Rooney could possibly get into the ring with if it was to transpire, with Hearn now throwing Paul’s name into the mix.
While he may have found success inside the ring, Hearn still believes that Rooney could come out on top in a potential clash, telling DAZN that a fight at Old Trafford would be massive.
I’ve spoken to Wayne about it before. He used to box, he was an amateur, he knows how to look after himself. I think he’ll stick to football right now but never say never.
“I think he would like to have a go, I know Kalle and Misfits have reached out to him. I don’t think we’ll see it just yet but I wouldn’t rule it out for the future.
“I’ve said before, Wayne Rooney against Jake Paul at Old Trafford is a huge event, and I back Wayne Rooney to win it.”
Paul is back in action on March 2 in Puerto Rico, when he goes up against 17-2 professional boxer Ryan Bourland.
