Jared Anderson has fought 15 times since turning professional in late 2019, racking up 14 knockouts and just one distance win.
The 23-year-old from Toledo Ohio managed to compete five times in 2020 – wildly impressive considering the Covid 19 pandemic – and has kept his activity up under promotional company, Top Rank.
Big things are expected of Anderson in terms of the heavyweight division. He’s touted as America’s hottest prospect, and is progressing at the right time to see the current crop of champions and top contenders on their way out the door.
For now, he’s sharpening his tools in as many fights as possible. Next in line is Ukraine’s Andrii Rudenko this coming Saturday in Tulsa.
Anderson touched on the motivation behind his activity in an interview with FightHype, and revealed that it was two-fold.
“Yeah I definitely think it’s a good thing. As AJ just said, he had a lot of his flaws and downfalls from not being active as he was in the beginning of his career, so now he tryna fight two, three times a year.
If I’m doing it now at this age, staying consistent with it until I want to retire, I think I’ll be unstoppable.
That’s definitely a goal to stay as active as I can. And plus I’m broke. I’m looking to make as much money as I can so that I can get out as quick as I can.”
The Rudenko fight will be the third of this year for ‘Big Baby’ following a quick knockout over George Arias and a decision win over former world heavyweight champion, Charles Martin.
Some fans pumped the brakes on the hype surrounding Anderson after the Martin performance, in which he was wobbled slightly by the southpaw who took the fight on short notice.
If he returns to stoppage ways this weekend, especially quickly, there could be room for two more this year – certainly one. First up is the Ukrainian though, who will step through the ropes 35 wins, 21 KOs, six losses but just one coming early.
