Daniel Dubois is growing in confidence ahead of his first shot at a world title, claiming he is ready to “bully” the smaller man in Oleksandr Usyk.
It’s not set to be an easy night for challenger Dubois, as the man defending his titles is a former undisputed cruiserweight king, decorated amateur and Olympic gold medallist.
Usyk is in possession of the WBA, WBO and IBF world titles having won them from, and then defended them against, Anthony Joshua in back-to-back fights in 2021 and 2022.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Dubois – who has beaten the likes of Kevin Lerena, Trevor Bryan and Kevin Johnson whilst losing only oncee to fellow Brit Joe Joyce – was asked how going into a fight as a rare underdog changes his mentality.
“It’s good to be an underdog, you know, although there’s pressure there and everything. But I don’t look at pressure too much. As an underdog, you don’t feel none of that.”
Dubois then gave an insight into his tactics and reiterated his game plan for the fight.
“Pure and simple you go out there and cause destruction on the guy, you know, put it on him. I’m a heavyweight, he’s a cruiserweight, and I need to show that, be the bully out there. I’m 25. It’s my time.”
When asked if he will learn a lot from the fight, win or lose, Dubois counters quickly that he isn’t thinking about losing.
“I’m coming to win. Simple as that. All guns blazing.”
All roads now lead to the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland on August 26, for what is set to be a fine showdown at the end of the month.
