The sport of boxing has suffered another loss of life in the ring.
Indonesian fighter Hero Tito (real name Heru Purwanto) fought James Mokoginta in a lightweight bout on February 27 in Jakarta. Tito, 35, lost by seventh round knockout and was then taken to hospital.
Tito was then put into a coma due to the injuries he suffered but lost his life on Thursday, March 3.
Having made his pro debut on February 28, 2004, Tito fought 48 times winning 29 times.
Tito is survived by his wife and two daughters aged 13 and 5.
Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis took to social media to comment on the death.
“Every time a fighter steps in the ring, they do so knowing it could be their last time. The boxing fraternity has lost another member. Rest in love Hero “The Lion” Tito.”
