Back in 2022, Jake Paul was involved in one of the biggest female fights of all time when undisputed world champion Katie Taylor and seven-division world champion Amanda Serrano came to blows and now he has spoken about the potential of a rematch.
Taylor vs. Serrano at Madison Square Garden was the first women’s contest to headline that historic venue and saw Taylor defeat Serrano by a split decision. It was named Fight of the Year by Sports Illustrated and Event of the Year by The Ring.
The fight was a close one that ended in a win for Taylor via 10-round split decision with scoreboards of 94-96, 97-93 and 96-93.
Earlier in the month, Eddie Hearn mentioned that there was a chance the two could go at it again in a rematch, though the promoter of Serrano has now denied that.
Jake Paul has posted a message on X to say there are no current negotiations to that effect.
“For the record, we are not in any discussions on a Serrano Taylor rematch, don’t use her name for leverage. Amanda is fighting Saturday, March 2nd in Puerto Rico in her 50th fight. After that we will determine what’s next.
“A Katie Taylor rematch is something Amanda would like to do before she retires. But even if it never happens, her legacy as one of the GOATs of boxing is already cemented.”
A rematch had once before been arranged as a homecoming in Ireland for Taylor but Serrano suffered an injury and instead Taylor went on to fight Chantelle Cameron twice, losing the first match but regaining her status as undisputed super-lightweight champion in the rematch.
