Jake Paul and confidence go together like fish and chips, and it’s no different when he’s predicting how he would do against one of the best boxers in the world today.
With his 5-0 record yet to include the name of an experienced professional boxer, the YouTuber turned fighter certainly has big ambitions in the sport. In fact, he wants to reach the very top and has been adamant that he will take and win a bout with Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez – a man many consider one of the top five active fighters on the planet.
In a bizarre rant on his BS YouTube show, Paul detailed why he thinks he could beat the Mexican superstar.
“I’m beating world champions in sparring.”
“They say fight a real boxer and I’m like all right, give me Canelo, and then they’re like ‘you’re crazy, shut the f**k up. So, it’s kinda like, what do I do?”
“The thing is, is Canelo is old. Canelo is looking like sh*t. He could barely beat Triple G – who sucked! He got his ass beat by Bivol, who’s long, keeps his range, keeps his distance. I’m bigger than Canelo. I weigh more than Canelo. All of the above, bro.”
He’s right about one thing – the weight. Paul hit the scales at 191lb for his second fight against Tyron Woodley, and Álvarez’ career highest is 175lb against both Sergey Kovalev and Dmitry Bivol.
Still, Canelo isn’t known to turn down challenges – in fact he’s insulted when anybody suggests otherwise – and maybe Paul’s constant call outs and criticisms might motivate the four-weight world champion to lace up against him.
First of all though, Paul faces Brazilian Mixed Martial Arts star, Anderson Silva, this month in Arizona. Silva has a couple of professional boxing victories, including one over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
