James ‘Chunky’ DeGale is fresh from reclaiming his IBF world super-middleweight title in his Las Vegas rematch with Caleb Truax this past weekend.
The obituaries had been written for the Briton ahead of the showdown. While DeGale did not look miraculous on Saturday night, he did enough to earn the victory.
He is now setting his sights on meeting his old rival, George Groves for the third time in the squared circle. Groves won on both occasions, most recently in 2011 when both were up and coming contenders.
They met also once more in the amateur ranks with Groves coming out successful on that occasion too.
Groves is currently scheduled to take on Callum Smith in the final of the super-middleweight world boxing super series.
But moving forward, if Groves comes through that test all roads will point toward the old rivals coming face to face as professional fighters once again.
Following his triumph and claiming the IBF 168 lbs title on American soil for the second time in his career.
“[I’m a] two-time world champion and it feels great,” beamed DeGale.
DeGale then sounded a warning to all potential suitors that they will be in for a hard night’s work if they decide to take him on.
“When I’m fit and injury free, people are going to find it hard to beat me.”
“Me on my day, I’m switched on and very hard to beat.”
Furthermore, DeGale underlined his happiness at reclaiming his title.
“Two-and-half years I had that belt for and I lost it to Truax last December.”
DeGale says he felt embarrassed following surrendering his title to the overwhelming underdog, Caleb Truax, late last year in London.
“He embarrassed me and I’ve come back and I’ve got back my title.”
“I’m a proud IBF world champion and I’m back.”
“I’m back, Team Chunky, we’re back!” DeGale bellowed.
