It has been in the pipeline for years but finally it looks as though actor Jamie Foxx will be portraying former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in an upcoming biopic.
The 53-year-old Texan famed for his roles in films such as Collateral, Django Unchained and his Oscar winning turn in Ray confirmed the news in a recent interview.
“Doing biographies is a tough thing. Sometimes it takes 20 years to get them done but we officially got the ball rolling.”
Foxx is known for his uncanny impression of Tyson and posted footage of himself on Instagram last year which showed the muscular bulk he had added to his frame.
The project will not hit the silver screen as first anticipated but instead will be a mini-series titled ‘Tyson’ which will head to the small screen.
Antonie Fuqua (Training Day) will direct while legendary film maker Martin Scorsese is on board as an executive producer. Distribution rights have not been picked up yet, but one imagines it won’t be long before a network or streaming service snaps it up.
