One of the more vocal personas of Team Mayweather is Floyd’s uncle, Jeff Mayweather.
The former IBO champion hosts his own segments on the official Mayweather Youtube channel and he certainly has an opinion about the fight between his nephew and Conor McGregor.
In a recent interview with Fighthype.com, the older Mayweather explained why McGregor doesn’t have a chance against Floyd. He also said which fight does he think the upcoming bout reminds him of.
“Boxing is not a game. It’s not something you can just play with. Floyd has been doing this for his whole life. You take a guy that has been doing it for three months and all of a sudden he’s going to beat one the best fighters to ever put on a pair of gloves? Not gonna happen,” said Mayweather.
Mayweather went into detail about why McGregor won’t be able to land punches against one of the best defensive boxers ever.
“When you miss, you throw away energy. He’s [McGregor] is going to be doing a whole lot of missing. Because of that missing eventually, he’s going to get himself in a position where Floyd’s gonna just dominate him. He’s gonna stop him,” explained Mayweather.
He compared the upcoming bout to the Mayweather-Gatti Fight, where ‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd absolutely dominated Gatti and put on a boxing clinic.
“This is probably going to be like Arturo Gatti-type of a fight. I think it’s gonna be that one sided. You can’t just jump into something and call out one the best. It’s great business. This is a business fight. It’s great for Conor but it’s great for Floyd too. But at the end of the day, he’s in Floyd’s world,” he summarised.
