WBC Middleweight champion, Jermall Charlo has made his prediction ahead of the much-anticipated catchweight bout between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia.
Charlo has won world honours at both super-welterweight and middleweight, making three defences of his 160lb title thus far, but has been inactive since June 2021.
Now it seems that a fight with middleweight veteran, Gennady Golovkin is on the cards, but for now, ‘The Hitman’, like many of his fellow fighters, is playing spectator with eyes on the all-American clash between Davis and Garcia.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Charlo believes Davis will come out on top and that if Garcia got the victory it would be by ‘accident’.
“It has nothing to do, personally, with Ryan and race or being black, I don’t care about none of that. It is nothing to do with that. I just like the underdog, you know, I think it is Ryan’s chance to do what he’s got to do. Do I think he will beat Tank? No. But, who am I rooting for? Ryan.”
“I think Ryan can pull it off, is that enough confidence? I think he can pull it off, but it’s going to be by accident, remember when Danny Garcia knocked out David Morales? He closed his eyes and threw the left hook and knocked him out, it’s going to be like that, if it happens.”
Tank and Garcia will square off on April 22nd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with the event being available for on both Showtime and DAZN PPV in America, with UK TV rights still to be announced.
