Jermell Charlo is back, and he is coming for everything.
After a long stretch away from the ring, Charlo is ready to make noise again. He is not easing back in either. Instead, he is targeting the biggest names at 154 pounds.
During an interview with The Last Stand, Charlo revealed that he has reached a verbal agreement to face Sebastian Fundora, the current WBC junior middleweight champion. The news is the most definitive signal of a serious comeback plan to-date. It also sets up a high-stakes clash in boxing’s deepest division.
Charlo shared details about the potential fight. He explained that discussions are ongoing and moving in the right direction. Although nothing is signed yet, confidence appears high on both sides that a deal will get done.
Jermell Charlo is thinking beyond just one opponent. He intends to clean out the entire division.
Charlo told Brian Custer that he has a verbal agreement in place to fight the winner of the soon to be announced bout between Errol Spence Jr. and Tim Tszyu.
Clearly, Charlo is not short on ambition. He wants every major fight available at junior middleweight.
That confidence comes from his past success. Back in 2022, Charlo became the undisputed junior middleweight champion. He unified all four major titles and established himself as the division’s top fighter.
His momentum stalled after a move up in weight. In 2023, he lost a unanimous decision to Canelo Alvarez at super middleweight. Since then, he has not returned to the ring.
Despite that setback, Charlo never lost his belts at 154 in the ring. Because of that, he still sees himself as the rightful king of the division.
“At 154, who can beat me? None of them,” Charlo quipped.
Now, he aims to prove it once again.
