Undisputed super-welterweight champion, Jermell Charlo, is poised to face Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at the end of next month, stepping up two weight-classes in the hope of claiming all four belts at super-middleweight.
Ahead of the showdown, Charlo pinpointed two of his opponent’s main weaknesses that he will be seeking to take advantage of.
Alvarez was originally linked to clash with Charlo’s twin brother Jermall, who is naturally bigger, but in a shock announcement it was instead revealed that the spectacle would see the Mexican face ‘Mell’ in an ‘undisputed versus undisputed’ match-up.
Despite the assumed physical disadvantages, there are plenty that feel that the slick Charlo could prove a difficult test for Canelo based off of his impressive stoppage win over Brian Castano last year, as well as Canelo’s run of three underwhelming performances on the spin.
The 33-year-old super-middleweight king lost in his light-heavyweight title challenge against Dmitry Bivol last year, and followed up that display with two decision wins against an ageing Gennadiy Golovkin and a valiant John Ryder, whom he was expected to knock out.
Charlo spoke to Fight Hype, about what he sees as the flaws in Canelo’s game.
“The frustration, when Canelo gets frustrated he gets a little careless and he is ready for the fight to just be over with.”
“He doesn’t like motherf***ers that move a lot.
The duo will take centre stage in Las Vegas on September 30 in Las Vegas, with Terence Crawford being sensationally linked to a fight with the winner for the quartet of titles up at 168lbs.
