Joshua Buatsi was days away from a final eliminator with Dan Azeez for a shot at Dmitry Bivol’s WBA World Light-heavyweight title.
The main event – set for London’s O2 Arena – was pulled on fight week due to a back injury suffered by Azeez during his final training session, leading doctors to force him out of the contest.
The all-British undefeated 175lbs clash will be rescheduled, but no date has been given promoter, BOXXER, just yet.
It leaves Buatsi in a frustrating position, having already been through a campaign which many fans feel hasn’t reached the heights it should have. He spoke to Boxing Social about taking the news.
“Very up and down feeling-wise. Of course, mainly I’m disappointed I’m not fighting but, yeah, nothing new. Nothing new, bro.”
Fans and some fighters speculated that the injury to Azeez perhaps wasn’t the main reason behind the postponement – something that has enraged the man himself.
When asked about that, Buatsi was confident ‘the truth will come out’ whilst not saying that his dance partner was lying.
“There’s a lot of speculation going on online, and I think time will tell. The truth will come out eventually. I’m not saying that what’s come out about Dan being injured is not true, but the truth will come out. So we’ve got to wait for it and see.”
The 30-year-old would like to see the fight rescheduled quickly.
“It’s gonna get rescheduled hopefully sooner rather than later. It’s a final eliminator and an opportunity I don’t want to miss. As soon as possible.”
Word is expected soon as to the new date for the clash.
