Joe Joyce is right at the top of the most-improved list for the heavyweight division over the course of 2022 in most fans’ books and is now considered as a serious world title contender.
Ahead of Tyson Fury’s fight with Derek Chisora, Joyce revealed that he his confident that he can beat The Gypsy King, if they eventually meet in the ring.
Fury went on to defeat Chisora by a tenth-round technical knockout and many boxing fans are hoping that Tyson will now fight Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed title, who he called out after the fight.
With Fury and Usyk ready to fight for all the marbles, it could well be Joyce, who holds the WBO interim belt, who gets the opportunity to take on the winner in the summer next year.
In an interview with Queensberry Promotions, Joyce admitted that he would love the opportunity to try and put an end to the Gypsy King’s reign.
“Of course I want to fight [Tyson] Fury, it’s a great fight man. We’ve had some great rounds in sparring and he’s the best in the division right now, so of course I want to fight the best and I’m getting lined up nicely for that. There is plenty of fighters at this top level, at this elite level of boxing, so there is plenty of exciting fights. Of course, you want to see me against Fury, [Deontay] Wilder, [Anthony] Joshua and [Andy] Ruiz, there is so many different names.
I believe I can beat him [Fury]. I’ve sparred him, we’ve had some competitive spars but it will be like next level on the big stage in an arena. The pressure and the skills that he possesses make it a tough, tricky fight but I am a boxer for a reason, I’m competitive and I want to get to the top and beat the best.
Tyson Fury himself has admitted that he believes Joe Joyce to be his toughest test in the division, due to his relentless pressure, size and his iron chin.
