John Fury is renowned for being relatively candid with his views on boxing and has now offered a verdict for the upcoming fight between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou.
‘Big John’ sure was honest in light of his son Tyson’s less than spectacular showing against Ngannou back in October when he called for him to change trainer, change style, and admitted his son might be in decline.
Speaking to Boxing Social via FreeBets.com in the wake of that result, he was asked for his view on the upcoming contest and sounded a note of caution for Joshua, no doubt mindful of the fact there is no rematch clause.
“I’ll be honest with you, you can’t write Ngannou off, he proved that against Tyson. He’s a strong kid, he’s got power, he’s built, you know, and if he comes wanting to win, if he comes with desire and determination he’s a problem for anyone in the world, it’s been proven.”
He then admitted he was looking forward to the fight and expressed belief that if Ngannou can land, Joshua might be in trouble.
“What a mouth-watering spectacle, and I do know one thing, if Ngannou tags AJ, he’ll not recover so quick. Catches him flush, he goes down AJ and he don’t get up so good does he. Nganoou is a different man to Andy Ruiz, he’s a massive man, 6ft 6, solid believes in himself.”
He then had praise for Joshua in light of how he dismantled Wallin.
“Maybe AJ’s going to work his magic and make Ngannou need a brown pair of trousers. He did it to Otto Wallin, and he might have that same effect on Ngannou, but don’t write him off.”
