John Fury has said that Derek Chisora is ‘as good as anybody else out there’ when defending his son’s choice to fight him on December 3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
John’s involvement comes after his son and WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World, Tyson, went viral for how he acted in an interview with True Geordie.
‘The Gypsy King’ didn’t take kindly to the probing questions about the calibre of opponent in Chisora, and ultimately ended the interview with a slew of sweary insults including t**ser, t**spot, bearded w**ker, and sh**house.
In a sit down with DAZN, the elder Fury unsurprisingly backs his son, calling the interviewer obnoxious and going on to defend Chisora as a dance partner.
“I just think that Tyson was absolutely right in what he said. You know, he [True Geordie] jumped all over him, he was being, what they call – what’s the word for it – obnoxious.
Why not say that Del Boy’s a good fighter? Yeah he’s lost a few, but look who he’s lost to, and they’ve all been close fights, could’ve gone either way. There’s a few times out of those fights I thought he’d won them. He’s as good as anybody else out there, and he has got the minerals to step up to the plate and box, hasn’t he? So he deserves his money.
And now, a lot of people have got a lot of egg on their face, and they can still argue, grips, do the podcasts, do what they can do. Make bones out of something that doesn’t need making bones of – that’s what they’ll do anyway. But let’s give them plenty to talk about, let’s give them plenty of content and enjoy it all the way. But there’s only one winner. The Gypsy King. He remains supreme at the top.”
Tyson is yet to comment on the interview, and may chose not to at all. His general outlook is if fans want to watch him fight ‘Del Boy’ for the third time, buy a ticket or pay for the pay-per-view. If they don’t, then don’t.
