Tyson Fury’s father John Fury gave a lengthy interview to Boxing Social after the recent WBO World heavyweight title fight between Joseph Parker and Hughie Fury.
The night proved to be a disappointing one for the Fury’s as Hughie lost the bout via points after a close twelve round fight.
But the conversation also steered towards John’s son Tyson, who is still waiting for his hearing the UK Anti Doping Agency.
Obviously, John Fury wasn’t pleased with what’s been going on for the past two years.
“It’s the biggest joke in history. When they took the belts at the beginning, that’s the first in the whole of boxing history. We have been blacklisted for something far beyond our control. We’re only human beings, family men. We just seem to get cheated, messed about, played games with, lied to, no truth, there’s nothing left anymore.
He even went as far as saying that the Fury’s might leave professional boxing.
“To be honest with you, it will be a wonder if we don’t walk away from this completely.”
“I know about conviction first hand. It has been well documented. If you’ve done something wrong, it doesn’t take two years to come a decision. You are done and dealt with. This is a joke beyond all jokes. And people are doing one of two things; turning a blind eye or helping out with it. Why are we so hated? Why are we so discriminated? What have we done,” pondered Fury.
He then talked about how the bad press has affected Tyson mentally.
“I’m thinking carefully about what I’m going to say. Give the kid a break. Why ruin his life and give him mental breakdowns? He’s gone to balloon in weight. He’s attempted suicide four times. I’m living with him now. I’ve moved into his house to get his head right,” revealed Fury.
The father hopes that the press and boxing community doesn’t treat his nephew Hughie Fury the same way as Tyson.
“He [Tyson] said ‘look, I’m heavyweight champion of the world and I’m getting treated like shit’… he has said ‘I wish I’d lost’…I just want people to understand where we’re coming from. We are fair and square people. If we get beat, fair enough. All I’m saying is; what you have done to Tyson, don’t do it to a 23 year old kid [Hughie]. Don’t bury the two of ’em. They’ve already buried one son. Don’t break another kid,” told Fury.
Both Fury cousins have been involved in boxing from an early age. John believes that after what they have given to boxing, Tyson and Hughie are entitled to be treated fairly.
“He [Hughie] has lived and breathed boxing. He’s never had a young life that kid, Tyson hasn’t. Whereas I used to go to nightclubs and enjoy myself. They haven’t done that. Once these young lads have dedicated like they’ve dedicated, why not give ’em a fair crack of the whip?”
Fury senior then looked at the camera and apologised for his son’s actions.
“Whatever Tyson said to offend you, I’ll apologise for him and he’s apologising. He’s been silly, he’s learned his lesson, forgive him. Everybody is entitled to a second chance,” he summarised.
