Daniel Dubois defeating Oleksandr Usyk would come as a huge shock to the vast majority of the boxing world, with few pundits giving the Dubois more than a puncher’s chance against the masterful Ukrainian.
However, never one to follow the crowd, John Fury has revealed he sees the mandatory title defence playing out differently than most.
In a recent interview with SecondsOut, ‘Big John’ exclaimed that he believes Usyk will more than likely be stopped by Dubois.
“He [Usyk] is probably going to get chinned off Daniel Dubois – for buttons!”
Although there has not been an official announcement as of yet, Usyk vs Dubois looks set to take place on August 26 in Wroclaw, Poland.
The event will serve as a de facto homecoming fight for Usyk, as it falls close to his country’s independence day and there is a large swathe of Ukrainians who reside in Poland
Despite John Fury’s confidence in ‘Triple D’, most observers view the Brit as little more than a stepping stone for Usyk before a mammoth undisputed fight against Tyson Fury later in the year.
Dubois’ preparations for the fight do not appear to have been ideal, as it was reported in May that he had split with trainer Shane McGuigan over a family dispute, with his sister Caroline remaining at that gym.
Don Charles, who is best known for being the on-off trainer of Derek Chisora, is now the man tasked with preparing Dubois for the huge task of dethroning Usyk in around ten weeks’ time.
If Dubois does pull off the unthinkable and is crowned unified world champion in Wroclaw, it would rank alongside the biggest upsets in the history of the heavyweight division.
