Former WBO cruiserweight world champion, Johnny Nelson, has criticised Tyson Fury and told him to get his act together before the rest of the division moves on from him.
Fury is yet to fight since defeating ‘old pal’ Derek Chisora for a third time last December.
The WBC champion had looked set to face Oleksandr Usyk earlier in the year, only for negotiations to collapse over a rematch clause. However, the Brit is soon to be sent a final ‘non-negotiable’ offer from Saudi Arabia for the undisputed clash this December.
‘The Gypsy King’ has made it clear he wants to fight this summer and has been linked to a range of opponents including Andy Ruiz Jr, Zhilei Zhang and Demsey McKean – but no deal has been reached as of yet.
In an interview with Pro Boxing Fans, Nelson thinks Fury is playing a dangerous game and the sport will quickly move on from him if he continues to ‘price himself’ out of fights.
“Course he is [pricing himself out of fights]. The thing about Tyson Fury is, today he wants to box, tomorrow he doesn’t. Tyson Fury is in a position, or he thinks he is in a position, where peopled need him more than he needs them, he ain’t. Boxing was here before him and boxing will be here after he has gone, sometimes you have got to get your head out of you’re a** and think ‘I need to get on with some action here’.
Even his fans are starting to struggle with the excuses. So Tyson Fury’s biggest problem is Tyson Fury and even Bob Arum is saying ‘look, we don’t even know what Tyson Fury wants to do’. He thinks he is in a luxurious position where he can pick and choose, the world will move on, fighters will carry on fighting everybody else, and he’ll just be that guy shouting in the background.”
Fury has teased imminent fight news with Martin Bakole and Frank Sanchez the current frontrunners.
