Former undisputed super-lightweight champion Josh Taylor recently announced his decision to postpone his fight with Jack Catterall, with an injury causing a delay to the grudge match. Now Taylor has spoken out and revealed the cause of the four-week pushback.
It isn’t the first time the fight has been delayed, as ‘The Tartan Tornado’ picked up an injury in late 2021, which forced him to change the date of his initial showdown with the Englishman from December to February.
He was eventually awarded a controversial split-decision win that caused fans to demand a rematch. The pair were set to fight again in early 2023 until the champion tore his plantar fascia, and both moved on from the clash.
Taylor lost the last of his four world titles and his undefeated record to Teofimo Lopez whilst Catterall outpointed both Darragh Foley and Jorge Linares.
For a third time, Taylor has postponed a fight with Catterall, but it has been rescheduled swiftly, and Taylor told Boxing Social the reason behind the decision.
“It was a bit of a kick in the teeth that news from the doctor. I had a little procedure on my eyes in early February and everything was going great. I went to my follow up appointment, recovery was [going] well, I went to the second one and it was great, then I went into the final one expecting to get told that I was good to go.
“I got told that the pressure behind my eyes went up again, so they advised that I put the fight back because it is your eyesight and stuff. He just advised me to put the fight back a couple of weeks, so that is exactly what I have done, I am going to listen to the medical professionals.”
