Josh Warrington is still smarting from his loss to Leigh Wood last year, and has now claimed he got lucky and that ‘it was easy.’
Warrington and Wood came to blows back in October 2023. For much of the fight, ‘The Leeds Warrior’ was boxing as well as he has done for a while, dominating Wood with his feet and his punches and keeping the Nottingham man quiet.
But in the seventh round with just seconds to go, Wood caught Warrington clean and sent him tumbling face down to the canvas.
Warrington got up, turned and walked back to his corner, at which point the referee decided he was not fit to continue and stopped the contest in controversial fashion.
Since then a war of words between the two and bubbled and boiled with Warrington hoping to get a rematch and Wood saying he would only agree on one condition.
Now Warrington has been speaking to Boxing Social and says the fight was easy until he got caught.
“I was enjoying myself, It was easy. I was surprised at how easy it was. Curly haired f*** can say what he wants. laying b*******, it was easy. He got lucky I could see the luck on his face.
“If I’d have been 100% right I’d have put my foot on the gas a lot earlier and closed the show earlier but I wanted to make sure I had enough to get the job done but yeah he got the f****** rub of the green.”
He was then asked if he backs himself to win in any division.
“Whatever weight. They talk about him being stronger or whatever but it works both ways, mate. He can say what he wants. He knows I can hurt him. If everything goes right in my camp he doesn’t see the final bell.”
Former world champion Warrington will be hoping to get a fight date secured soon, with Wood or otherwise, given he is in the final stages of his career.
